'Spring Equinox' was inspiried by Dali's 'Women with a Head of Roses' (1937) --along with several other paintings the artist produced in the mid-1930's depicting women without heads, but rather bouquets of flowers on their shoulders. I have always found these paintings hauntingly beautiful, and while I do not set out to capture the vastness of Dali's painting, nor the surreal style for which he is so well known, I want to ask the same question that struck me when I first saw Dali's Head of Roses: what do these woman hide? Why is she hiding? Or, what is she hiding from?
